Message to a Friend
Perspective on Understanding

I am so blessed to have you as a friend
And so deeply honored to share in your life and your pain
I am, also, honored to offer you a perspective, theological, as well
A perspective on knowledge, wisdom and understanding

King Solomon, the wisest man on earth during his period, wrote in the Book of Proverbs 4; 7, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: but in all thy GETTING, get UNDERSTANDING”.

There is a relationship between knowledge, wisdom and understanding. Knowledge contains the word “to know”. We gain knowledge through all the forms of education and experience. Knowing how to use the knowledge is wisdom. Solomon exercised his wisdom when two mothers had a baby and one of the babies died. Both claimed to be the mother of the living baby.

Solomon said, “Cut the baby in half and give half to each claimant. The real mother fell on the baby and said "let her have it". Solomon said, “She’s the real mother, let her have it.

Therefore wisdom is the practical application of knowledge. Understanding is more profound because “understanding” is a matter of the heart.

Some have said that a mother losing a child in death is the worse human emotional pain, ever!

Sticking with the analogy of cutting of the baby in half, King Solomon never had a baby and then loses it, in death. But he understood, somehow, the pain, the sacrifices and the love of a genuine mother

Understanding is indeed one of the greatest virtues!!

“…And in time, we all shall have a greater understanding, for now we see through a glass darkly…”
