Blog: Sunday at the Elite Eight
The scene in Indianapolis was set for an epic battle, and for the first 13 1/2 minutes, the Cardinals and Blue Devils were delivering it.
Then, everything stopped with one play, and both players and fans were reduced to tears.
Louisville's Kevin Ware suffered a compound fracture of his leg as he landed after contesting a 3-pointer, and the injury was so gruesome that teammates began crying as Ware lay in front of the Cardinals bench.
The arena fell into stunned silence as trainers attended to Ware. Coach Rick Pitino wiped away tears as his player was stretchered off the court and taken to the hospital.
Racism, sexism and ageism are alive and well in America. There has never been and never will be a fair playing field in America in all areas of life. I am Pre-Civil Rights, therefore, historical and I observe life from a perch. What I see is not good

Woman stabbed 54 times by 21-year-old neighbor
A 21-year-old Michigan man was convicted of first-degree murder and torture of his neighbor, and carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent.
MLive.com reports, Lashon T. Hollman was arrested on charges of dropping a television set on Cassandra Nelson and then stabbing her 54 times inside her apartment at 923 N. Harrison on Saginaw's West Side on February 1, 2012.
After a week and half of court hearings, the jury of eight women and four men took less 15 minutes to deliberate and convict Hollman of first-degree premeditated murder, torture, and carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent.
A County Medical Examiner who testified during the trial said Nelson probably fell unconscious after being hit with the television set, stopped breathing and aspirated -- drowned in her own blood -- after a couple of minutes. Nelson's body was then stabbed 54 times in the upper back, back and neck. Police found the bloody knife underneath Nelson's bed.
Hollman, who at first denied his involvement in the incident, lowered his head and cried when the verdict was read. He is scheduled for a May 9 sentencing hearing before Saginaw County Circuit Judge Darnell Jackson, who also presided over the trial.
