10-year-old put in cage with family dog while traveling on Pennsylvania Highway (Video)

A 10-year-old girl was traveling on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in a cage with her dog in the back of a pickup truck, according to The Inquisitr on May 29. Other motorists were shocked and phoned the Pennsylvania State Police to report the incident. It all started around 7 p.m. on Monday in Millvale, Pennsylvania which is just a short distance outside of Pittsburgh.
Since it was the holiday weekend, the highway was quite busy with people coming home from Memorial Day events. Police stated they received a number of phone calls from fellow motorists who saw the little girl and they gave a description of the pickup truck and the girl. The second caller was able to give the police the license number of the truck.
The police located the registration of the truck and sent authorities to the location of the owner’s home. They caught up with the truck where they found the 10-year-old girl in a cage with a little dog. Police have charged the parents of the girl in the cage. Abbey Carlson, 29, and her stepfather, Thomas Fishinger, 30, have been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and one felony count.

A photo of the 10-year-old girl in the cage that was taken by a motorist was posted on the Internet on Tuesday. The photo showed the girl recoiling in the small cage and not able to sit up completely. The driver of the pickup, Fishinger, told police that they were coming home from his mother’s home in nearby Beaver County. He stated that the 10-year-old girl wanted to be in the cage with the dog so he fulfilled her request.
The little girl’s maternal grandmother, who wished to remain anonymous, told KSBW that the girl was in her custody on Tuesday, and she was embarrassed about the event.
"It was just an innocent mistake on their behalf, and it was nothing more than that," the grandmother said. "Yes, I quite possibly think that she could have been in danger. But I don't think that they were thinking of it that way. They would never put her in danger -- never. I know they wouldn't."
