It was and is something about his despicable character that was in the news that caused me to have almost 0 respect for him, even as a criminal. He stooped below that standard of immoral character, if there is such a level

Joran van der Sloot, chief suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Natalee Holloway, says he will marry in the Peruvian prison where he's serving time for murder.
LIMA, Peru — Convicted Dutch murderer Joran van der Sloot is planning nuptials with a Peruvian woman in the prison where he's serving a 28-year sentence.
His attorney Maximo Altez tells The Associated Press they are awaiting permission from penal authorities for a wedding within two weeks in Piedras Gordas prison.
Altez would not name the bride. Press reports say she is Leydi Figueroa Uceda, who has visited Van der Sloot often. Altez denied press reports that she bore Van der Sloot a son.
Altez sought on Wednesday a sentence reduction for Van der Sloot, who pleaded guilty to the brutal 2010 murder of a young Lima woman he met in a casino.
"He wants to get married, change his life, make a new life," his lawyer said.
Van der Sloot remains the chief suspect in the 2005 disappearance in his native Aruba of U.S. teen Natalee Holloway.
Holloway was 18 years old when she vanished during a high school graduation trip to the Caribbean island of Aruba. She was last seen leaving a bar the morning of May 30, 2005, with Van der Sloot.
Holloway's body was never found and the ensuing searches for her would create intense media scrutiny and worldwide attention. In January, a judge declared Holloway dead.
Van der Sloot faces extortion and wire fraud charges in Alabama in connection with Holloway's unsolved disappearance, which occurred five years to the day before he killed Peruvian business student Stephany Flores after meeting her in a Lima casino.
U.S. prosecutors allege Van der Sloot accepted $25,000 in cash from Holloway's family in exchange for a promise to lead an attorney for the family to her body in early 2010 just before he went to Lima.
He pleaded guilty in January 2012 in Peru to killing the 21-year-old Flores.
