Survival-minded siblings swim 14 hours to shore after boat sinks

It took five minutes for their boat to sink. It took 14 hours for brother and sister Dan and Kate Suski to swim 8 miles from the wreck to the shore. They'd been marlin-fishing off the coast of St. Lucia when they had to grab life jackets and abandon their sinking boat in rough seas. After waiting to be rescued, they started swimming toward a small strip of land. "There's this very real understanding that the situation is dire," Kate said. "We both processed the possible ways we might die." They reached shore during the night, later finding a farmworker who called for help. They were treated at a local hospital and — deservedly — upgraded to suites at their hotel. [Newser]
