A Rebuttal

Mike Dikta
Former Bears Coach
Recently stated in the Chicago Times,

“There has been no oppression, racial oppression in the United Sates, for the last 100 years

“To speak philosophically, could this be a true statement?”

There are all types of “pression”, meaning pressure, in the world

Depression, oppression, repression, suppression, and plain ole pressure

Those forces that inhibit life

Oppression has always been here

It will always exist and be here

Each of these “pressions”, formerly mentioned, has a slightly different connotation

But some use these different nouns, as if, they are one and mean the same

Each of these pressions attacks a different part of one’s existence

Depression refers to the attack on one’s mental faculties and emotions

Oppression is from without of one’s existence, from others

Even though one could be oppressed from within

A person can oppress another person

Physically, emotionally, mentally

Positively, it is the overcoming state of mind that, often, prevails

One, pre-ancient, author wrote

“We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair”

All of these pressions have been here since the beginning

And will continue to exist

They are traits that belong to humans
