SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — An Arizona homeless mother was arrested after allegedly leaving her two children in a hot SUV with the engine turned off during a job interview.
According to an arrest log form the Scottsdale Police Department, a witness called authorities on March 20 after hearing a child crying from a Dodge Durango parked outside an office building in Scottsdale, Ariz.
The log stated police discovered a 2-year-old boy and 6-month-old girl inside the unattended SUV.
Shanesha Taylor, the mother of the two children, returned to the vehicle about 45 minutes later. She told authorities she had no one to watch the kids while she interviewed for a job, said police.
Taylor was arrested on charges of child abuse.
The incident sparked a social media reaction and debate.
Arizona resident Amanda Bishop set up a donation page on YouCaring.com to raise money towards Taylor’s bond and legal expenses — the page has since expired or been taken down, but raised $70,000 in donations.
Supporters also set up a page to benefit Taylor on Change.org, asking Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery to drop the charges against Taylor.
Her children were placed in Child Protective Services.
CNN contributed to this report.
