Photos: US Winter Olympic uniforms are Made in the USA

Ralph Lauren did not want themselves another controversy after all the criticism the company received during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. A year and half ago, there was outrage from American because the clothing worn by the United States Olympians because they were made overseas, specifically China. The downturn in the economy, which included an extremely high unemployment rate, caused many Americans to spew venom at the direction of the American-based company for taking work away from manufacturers here in the states. There should be no issue this time around, as all clothing to be worn at the Sochi Olympics with winter is Made in the USA.

While Ralph Lauren is the exclusive outfitter for the US team, they are not making the individual uniforms worn by the athletes. Several different clothing manufacturers are involved in that, depending on the sport. More than 40 US companies were involved in the process of making the clothing for US athletes. This was as important to the athletes, as it is to the Americans rooting for them:
“As an athlete, the clothing means even more than you’d think,” said Evan Lysacek, who won a figure-skating gold in 2010. “The training, the sacrifices, the lifestyle, which is not glamorous and can be grueling and trying at times, all seem to come together in the moment when you realize you are part of the Olympic team. The moment you put on those first pieces of the American team clothes, you feel like it’s real.”
Ralph Lauren announced shortly after the outcry in 2012, that they would keep production in the US.
