Mistreatment of the elderly

Some research indicates that 1 in 10 seniors have suffered some form of abuse at least once.

MASON, Ohio — She raises her hands to her snow-white hair in a gesture of frustrated bewilderment, then slowly lowers them to cover eyes filling with tears. The woman, in her 70s, is trying to explain how she wound up in a shelter that could well be where she spends the rest of her life.

This trend of disrespecting senior citizens began probably 30-40 years ago. I am 64 years old now and I grew up in an era when we were reared to respect seniors. To use a curse word in front of an elderly person was a taboo. Today, an elderly person is just as likely to be cursed by somebody as any other would be degenerate on the street. In certain cultures, the elderly are revered for their wisdom and longevity of life
