Ruben Studdard won big on the second season of "American Idol." Now he's hoping to lose big on another television venture.
Studdard has been tapped to compete on the upcoming 15th season of NBC's weight-loss competition "The Biggest Loser," a network spokeswoman toldTheWrap on Monday.
The 34-year-old singer, who bears the nickname The Velvet Teddy Bear, has struggled with his weight throughout the years, though in 2006 Studdard dropped almost 100 pounds after seeking help from a weight-management center and becoming a vegetarian.
Studdard's most recent album, "Letters from Birmingham," was released in March 2012.
