JIM THORPE, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say an off-duty police officer in rural northeastern Pennsylvania has died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Authorities are trying to sort out the details. Initial reports say the 33-year-old Lansford officer took another officer hostage Friday night and took a police cruiser, then drove with the hostage about 10 miles east to Jim Thorpe.
A struggle broke out before the alleged hostage-taker committed suicide.
State police say an investigation is continuing.
