No Worries Cher, Most Judges Have No Idea, Either

When Cher appears on the Nov. 4th episode of "Dancing With the Stars," make no mistake about it: The usually confident superstar will be battling butterflies in her stomach.
In a press call with reports, the pop icon talked about her upcoming guest judging stint on the TV dancing competition (she'll be filling in for head judge Len Goodman), and revealed that she's nervous about the live show — perhaps even more than the celebrity dancers are.
"I'm so not qualified to be judging on a technical basis, because I don't know really anything about ballroom dancing," she said. "And I don't want to be responsible in any kind of way for… just the fact that someone happens to be there the night that I'm there, I don't want anyone to not have all the breaks they would have [with] someone with expertise … That's a little frightening."
She added: "I know that people take this seriously, and I feel [great] about all the rest of it, I'm confident … I just don't want to be responsible for someone getting a different mark than a professional would give them. So I am a little bit worried about that part."
While the Grammy winning singer said she was given a huge manual to help her out, her son Chaz — who competed on the 13th season of the show — has already given her a heads up on how seriously the celebrity contestants take the competition, and has even offered to tutor her. "He's coming to give me tips!" she said.
While she knew that the "DWTS" tribute show would feature her own live performances (she'll perform two songs, so get ready for three awesome costume changes) as well as the celeb couples dancing to her songs, Cher said she was a bit surprised about her additional role.
"Being a judge kind of came as a surprise to me," she revealed. "The thing is, I don't like to do anything half way or in half measures. I was even nervous when I did 'The Voice,' and then I realized I was absolutely more than able to do that, even though it was unbelievably hard work. I feel a little bit nervous about this because I actually have enjoyed ballroom dancing. I've seen it on television. I saw it a lot when I lived in England … I don't know how you judge it, and that makes me feel a little bit frightened. I don't want to do anything that would hurt anybody in any way."
But don't worry, the "Believe" singer isn't planning to become the show's "mean" judge any time soon.
"I'm not that kind of person," she said. "I'm just not. They're going to be so mad, but I'm not. I don't come from that place, and I don't even know enough — I would never come from that place anyway. I was there when Chaz was doing it and saw how difficult it was. I don't even think that I could do a proper job of it."
She added, "I just don't want to miss any fabulous thing that someone is doing [that] would be a big deal and I wouldn't even know it. I like to know what I'm doing and do it really well. And in this particular instance I have no idea what I'm doing."
The superstar predicts that she will mostly comment on what she thinks of each couple's performance on Monday night's show, but she won't really judge any one. And if it comes down to her opinion on what she thinks a dance looked like or if it was beautiful, she's all in: "That I can do in spades," she said.
Indeed, in a career that's spanned five decades, Cher has plenty of experience watching her backup dancers and all of the "amazing things they do." But she added: "We don't grade in rock and roll."
While Cher's an Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, Golden Globe, and People's Choice Award winner, she's drawing the line at adding a mirrorball trophy to her collection. When asked if she'd ever consider competing on the show, she said, "I think I wouldn't do it because I would be too frightened."
