Fans wear KKK hoods: Several South Dakota hockey fans achieved infamy on social media sites this weekend after they were photographed wearing KKK-style hoods.

Three North Dakota hockey fans achieved infamy on social media sites this weekend after a Twitter user posted a photograph of them wearing Ku Klux Klan-style hoods.
Shane Schuster posted a photograph he apparently took on Twitter, which drew condemnation from other users. “Its [sic] a hate crime/charge them with a hate crime,” wrote user “Dana Lone Hill.”
Another Twitter user, “Johnny Lee Clary,” wrote that if he was in a position of authority, he’d “make them go pick up trash.”
The students, who have not been identified, were photographed wearing the robes and hoods at a high school hockey game in Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

The fans were in the Red River High School fan section of the stadium, and were apparently dressed that way as a part of the high school’s “white out” tradition, but other students and faculty members with the school were appalled.
“We, as a school, are extremely disappointed with the behavior of these three students,” Principal Kris Arason said in a statement obtained by the Grand Forks Herald. “This behavior is not a representation of our school or student body.”
Without elaborating, he said that “appropriate action is being taken” after he contacted the students and their parents.
“They put them on for about 30 seconds,” Red River senior Barret Eickhof told the paper. “Nobody did anything at first, but then after everyone saw it, we all told them to take it off.”
“I was really disappointed with what they did,” junior Sam Mattice said. “I was just awestruck when I heard,” and added that “I want everyone to know that’s not how Red River is. We’re better than that. It was just three freshmen looking for attention.”
Senior Lane Meyer said that “it was a joke,” adding: “It’s not like they’re part of (the KKK).”
