Pregnant Texas teen sues parents to prevent them from forcing an abortion
The 16-year-old alleges her mother has discussed slipping her an abortion pill to kill the fetus. She’s seeking a restraining order against her father for the duration of her pregnancy.

A pregnant teen is suing her parents to keep them from trying to force her to have an abortion.

A Texas teen is suing her parents to prevent them from forcing her to have an abortion against her will.
The 16-year-old girl, who hasn’t been named because she’s a minor, is about nine weeks pregnant, according to the lawsuitfiled in a Houston court.
The teen claims she was physically assaulted by family members trying to coerce her to abort her baby, according to her lawyers at the pro-life Texas Center for Defense of Life. She was also forced to get two jobs and was kept home from school when she refused to abort, lawyers said.
The girl says her mother at one point “ invited the paternal grandparents to a bar for further discussion, where she suggested that she might slip her an abortion pill through deception,” the lawsuit reads.

Lawyers for the Texas Center for Defense of Life say the girl legally has the right to decide to keep her baby, despite the objections of her parents.
Lawyers argue that the teen is free to decide to keep her baby under state law and provisions of Roe Vs. Wade which gives women the right to make their own reproductive choices.
The teen lives with her paternal grandparents, who have agreed to help care for the baby, the lawsuit claims.
The teen’s mother remains deeply opposed to her daughter giving birth because “the two minor parents had no idea what it would do to their lives,” the suit reads.
In addition to preventing the girl’s parents from forcing the abortion, the lawsuit seeks a temporary restraining order against the girl’s father while she is pregnant.
