Five years after his death, Michael Jackson will release a new album.
Sony and Epic Records announced on Monday that they will release "XSCAPE," an album of music based on previously unreleased tracks by the King of Pop. Here's how it came together:
Epic CEO and Chairman (as well as former "X-Factor" judge) L.A. Reid was given access to decades' worth of Jackson's archives, and selected a list of eight tracks that were then retooled to sound more contemporary, with Timbaland serving as lead producer.
"Modern music and artistry would look and sound completely different if not for the groundbreaking contributions Michael Jackson gifted to the world," Reid said in a statement. "Michael left behind some musical performances that we take great pride in presenting through the vision of music producers that he either worked directly with or expressed strong desire to work with. We are extremely proud and honored to present this music to the world."
The album hits stores on May 13.
