Endorsements have started rolling in for Michael Sam
Here comes the money!
Michael Sam, the incoming NFL rookie who recently announced to the world that he's gay, has signed autograph deals with five trading card companies, accoring to a report by ESPN.com
Sam's agent Cameron Weiss says that the defensive end will have signed products available with Topps, Upper Deck, Panini, Sage and Press Pass. The terms of the deals haven't been disclosed.
"We normally focus on defensive players that are most likely to get drafted in the first two rounds, so Michael was originally one of our alternates," said Nick Matijevich, vice president of operations for Press Pass. "But the news made his inclusion a no-brainer."
Press Pass has signed 70 players to the autograph deal, including such stars and Johnny Manziel and Jadeveon Clowney. However, is this group of deals a sign of more to come?
Not so fast. Sam's agent says he doesn't want his client to focus on anything off the field over the next few weeks. However, Sam will have a signing coming up in St. Louis on March 22.
Just in case you're wondering, a signed Sam mini-helmet will cost $60. An autographed Missouri jersey? Plop down $100. Not a bad day's work, eh?
