Finland scores three unanswered goals, eliminates Russia
Finland defeated the host country 3-1 in a match that determined who would be facing Sweden in the semifinals. After Ilya Kovalchuk scored the first goal of the game for Russia, Finland responded with three unanswered goals before the end of the second period. Juhamatti Aaltonen got it started it for Finland, tying the game at one goal apiece. Teemu Selanne tacked on another goal towards the end of the first period, and Mikael Granlund scored the final goal of the game for either team a few minutes into the second period. With the defeat, Russia is now knocked out of medal contention.
