Rosie O'Donnell Returns to 'The View,' Agrees to Disagree With Barbara Walters Once Again
What a difference seven years makes — just ask Rosie O'Donnell.
On Friday, the former "View" host, who was booted off left the show after an epic feud with Barbara Walters back in 2007, returned to the Hot Topics table with her former colleagues for a proper hang. She even started the segment by giving the entire panel hugs. "This feels kind of weird, but good weird," she said as she took her seat.
Not surprisingly, she got a bit cheeky after that. "Is Hasselbeck here?" she asked, referring to Elisabeth Hasselbeck, with whom she regularly clashed and who has since taken a seat on Fox News. "I'm afraid I'll be exiled again."
Seeing as Walters and Sherri Shepherd are the only panelists remaining from Rosie's tenure, she had little to worry about, especially since it appears she and Walters have buried the hatchet. But there were more important subjects to cover than their infamous battles — like Rosie's biggest challenges raising her kids and her opinion about Dylan Farrow's accusations against Woody Allen.
"We had some good times. We had some bad times," Walters laughed as she introduced the Emmy-winner. They wasted no time catching up, and Barbara was quick to add that, while they've had their share of disagreements, she's always insisted that Rosie is "a wonderful mother."
Discussing her new child, Dakota (whom Rosie adopted with her wife, Michelle Rounds, in Jan. 2013), the comedienne admitted the process has been a bit of a challenge.
"It's a little annoying raising a baby with a woman when this is her first child and it's my fifth," she explained. "The night we brought her home from the hospital, we were at the hotel, and [Michelle] goes, 'Oh my God. Where is she going to sleep? We forgot to get a crib!' And I go, 'Honey, she's going to sleep right on my chest.'" But the first-time mom wasn't convinced. "She goes, 'Didn't you read that pamphlet they gave us when we left the hospital?! You cannot co-sleep with a baby! You could roll over and suffocate that baby!'" Rosie recounted. "And I go, 'Well, the other four are alive and well.'"
But it wasn't only her own daughter who was a topic of conversation. When Barbara asked Rosie's opinion about Dylan Farrow's accusations against her father, Rosie didn't miss a beat.
"I totally believe her," she declared. "I am very good friends with Mia Farrow, like, very close friends. I have seen her as a mother. She's the best mother I've ever seen."
She was also quick to dismiss Moses Farrow's assertion that Mia had poisoned the kids against their father.
"I do not believe that. If you read the custody decision by the prosecutor, you will understand that there was cause to prosecute, but they thought it would be too traumatic for this 7-year-old child. He was not given any custody of those children," she argued before restating, "I firmly believe Dylan and I believe Mia."
And while it was clear that Barbara had a different stance, the "View" vet held her tongue — for the most part.
"I like Mia. She's been a good mother, but I think he's been a good father too," Walters stated. "So we'll move on." In other words, we're going to keep the peace... with each other, anyway. We'll have to wait and see whether Moses feels like going head-to-head with Rosie, though something tells us he's going to pass on that.
The group touched on a few other timely topics — Justin Bieber and the death of Philip Seymour Hoffman, namely — and Rosie spoke briefly about her upcoming comedy special for HBO on heart disease and her current guest arc on ABC Family's "The Fosters." All in all, the appearance went off without incident, which we guess is a good thing. Right?
